The VMAs have a new date.
Earlier today (August 12), the network revealed that due to the upcoming presidential debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump on Tuesday, September 10, the 2024 MTV VMAs will now air on Wednesday, September 11th.
Promising electrifying performances and unforgettable moments from the world’s biggest superstars, MTV also shared the news that Camila Cabello, Chappell Roan, GloRilla, Rauw Alejandro and Sabrina Carpenter are the first round of global music stars slated to perform.
In a press release, MTV states that 4x VMAs winner, “Best Pop” nominee and GRAMMY® nominated pop superstar Camila Cabello will return LIVE to the iconic MTV stage for her third time to deliver a can’t-miss performance from her fourth studio album, C, XOXO; Chappell Roan will make her way to an award show stage for the first time in her career; GloRilla will make her VMAs performance debut, and Rauw Alejandro will be unveiling a new song. Sabrina Carpenter will also make her main stage debut at the big show, as she’s previously preformed at the red carpet pre-show back in 2023.
Just last week, MTV revealed the nominees across 15-gender-neutral categories, and to no surprise, Taylor Swift leads the pack with a whopping ten nominations. This September, she will be looking to continue her record-breaking streak for “Video of the Year” and shatter her own record to become the only artist to ever three-peat and win 5x in the coveted category.
Post Malone is not far behind with nine nominations, followed by Ariana Grande, Sabrina Carpenter, and Eminem with six and Megan Thee Stallion and SZA with five. Other top finalists include BLACKPINK‘s LISA, Olivia Rodrigo, Teddy Swims, Anitta and Dua Lipa, with Benson Boone, Tyla, Chappell Roan, Jelly Roll, Jessie Murph, Raw Alejandro, Sexyy Red, Victoria Monét among the many earning their first-ever VMA nominations. Nominations for social categories will be announced at a later date.
With a host yet to be confirmed, the 2024 MTV VMAs air LIVE from the UBS Arena in New York on Wednesday, September 11th @ 8PM ET/PT on MTV.
